Photographing Mighty African Vultures

This photo essay will take you on a visual journey showcasing some of South Africa’s favourite vultures. In South Africa, many vulture populations are in decline, especially among the vulture families, which are also some of the oldest surviving raptors. The 6 types of vultures are the Cape vulture, bearded vulture, white-backed vulture, lappet-faced vulture, white-headed vulture, and hooded vulture. All types of vultures are critically endangered, and their survival is vital to the local ecosystems, as they are responsible for the natural disposal of animal carcasses in the wild.
