I recently went on a photo safari to Tumbeta Private Game Reserve in Limpopo province, South Africa. I was fortunate enough to get some excellent sightings of the local big cats.
It rained for most of the safari, but the cats remained active. I managed to get some great photos, which I have displayed in this photo essay.
The above photo was captured shortly after the lioness had killed a young giraffe in the nearby vicinity. The lioness had not eaten the giraffe but was seemingly taking a rest some meters away from the dead giraffe. The above photo was captured shortly after the lioness had killed a young giraffe in the nearby vicinity. The lioness had not eaten the giraffe yet, but was seemingly taking a rest some meters away from the dead giraffe. The above photo was captured shortly after the lioness had killed a young giraffe in the nearby vicinity. The Lioness became startled as we drove past in the game viewing vehicle. As we set out on the game viewing drive in the morning, and before spotting the Lioness, we came across this Cheetah that had a kill (an impala) hidden in the thick of the bush, which it was feeding on as we drove past. The blood stains around the Cheetah’s mouth highlight the carnal nature of this sublime predator. When we drove near the Cheetah and its kill, the cat became bothered by our presence and made a dash out of the area to return to the kill a short while later, which allowed for better photographic opportunities. When we drove near the Cheetah and its kill, the cat became bothered by our presence and made a dash out of the area to return to the kill a short while later, which allowed for better photographic opportunities.
